I am looking for ideas on how best to promote proxy websites.

I have heard of google groups and adding to topsites etc.

What is the other ways to ensure you keep getting traffic to your proxy site or network.

There were a few offering services here fr promotion but cannot seem to find the posts anymore.

Also when creating a network how many sites do you suggest 40-100?

And does using .info or .com what goes better or does it not matter.

The TLD doesn't tend to matter for proxies. The main point is that the proxy name is memorable, catchy and easy to pronounce. A lot of your traffic will come from school children spreading the word by mouth, so it needs to roll of the tounge.

From what I've been told, buying a $20 bold spot on proxy.org really helps consitent traffic to flow in, and I will definately be puchasing that when I can afford it. Just keep an eye on the adverising section of the Services forum and you're bound to find something.

40-100 proxy sites is a huge network, and you'll probably have trouble to promote them all to do really well. I think if you're going to have this many proxies, however, you should have 8 subnetworks of 5 proxies all of which are related in some way (for instance, my proxies, aablox.com, bbblox.com, ccblox.com...). This will mean if one of the proxies gets blocked, people can still remember the others.
