I am interested in how to market an online shop. My dad has offered me a chance to help him open an online shop that sells car audio and home theater equipment (electronics) for cheaper than the big guys such as Best Buy, Circuit City, ect. I told him I would create the site (which I have already done in osCommerce) and now was wondering on how to get traffic to this shop. We want only United States traffic though because thats the only place we can ship at the moment. Please help us. Any help will be appreciated.

    Sincerely,
    David Clark

Hi David, have you tried a Google Adwords campaign?

You can set one up targeted towards US visitors. Be careful on what keywords you target your ad for.:)

That is what I am not good at though. Picking paying keywords in not my thing. Also how much would that cost?

What i used to do was, sell on ebay. Use your website name for your ebay user name.
Also write your web address all over your ebay sales page. Real interested people will check it out.
I dont sell anymore ...Too much work as it got too busy for me with shipping.
But it should still work a little.

Make a product datafeed and stick it in comparison shopping sites. Since you the cheapest you steal all their customers. Oh YEAH.

froggle, google adwords, text link ads from places like adbrite.com (sometimes you can find a pretty cheap way to get your link on a site for a month and get a few conversions from that), start posting in car forums/home theater forums and put the website in your signature.

And i was wondering which merchant account your using with OsCommerce? i had my site converted to OsCommerce (currently learning how to do it myself, don't know php) to save money and have been using Paypal and found it works real well. Just wondering what other options i could have

If I was you I would firstly try Froogle. It is a free service and if done right can get you a good number of sales.

Adwords, is going to be very costly to you if you have not had much experience with online advertising and things. Start of with froogle and then work from there. Also promoting your site just to increase it's sites rankings in the major search engines will mean that you should get back links from other similar sites to yours.
