Hi, Was talking to someone the other day about starting an online store selling female clothes. She was talking about friendster marketing. I assume she meant adding friends slowly manually and telling them about her online clothing store. Any of you have any experience in this and also what other ways are there to promote an online female clothing store? thanks
You can do other marketing strategy than spamming the members of friendster network. You could post ads on free classified ads site, do optimization on your site to get targeted buyers.
well it really depends if your friends in your network don't mind spam than it won't do any harm if they do all you have is one piss off could be customer
Iwould have thought you'd do better to spend your time getting your site ranking in google for your main keyword phrase

writing articles can be good also try posting your items on ebay first and have a link to your site from ebay
SEO is an ok way as far as a clothing store. To be honest coming from someone who markets large clothing stores and many other companies, the thing you need with an online store is branding. When someone is looking for clothes they do sometimes buy because of SEO but most of the time when someone wants to buy a product for instance computer parts do you type in the part and buy it from a random store that you don't know the quality of or do you type in tiger direct, best buy, etc to get the product. The studies show that most people when buying products search the name of the store and then go to the product more than who just type in the product.
I think doing some basic SEO would be better. Doing friendster and myspace would be alright, but I wouldn't just spam people. If they are your friend on friendster or myspace, i'd suggest offering discounts in your bullitens you post or the message you send them when sending a friend request.
Slow marketing = slow results. Get a gameplan together and get yourself organized. There are many ways to market the clothing store and an effective marketer will utilize all of them...
Marketing and Promoting and Selling are all different things with different goals. You don't just start a business. You develop a plan for your business. Marketing is part of the plan. Why waste your time otherwise? People fail, because they fail to plan.
Well you see the target market is south east asia and according to the current demographics, Friendster is the place where the penetration rate is the highest. Most people I think in that age range would not do searching on google so SEO might not be so useful. I know SEO but I think since its not the US market not much point. I like the one off discount idea thanks for the suggestion.
