Hey all, So, recently, I bought a forum about SEO (http://www.seo-forum.org). There wasn't much content that came w/ it actually, but it already had a PR of 3. Anyway, since it was about SEO, I decided to start a promotion where active members will receive free sitewide backlinks. (You can see my thread on the link sales forum: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=128988) I was thinking this offer would be attractive, since SEO guys are always looking for backlinks. What are your thoughts on this? Where else do you think I should promote this offer? Also, care to share more advice/tips on marketing a forum like mine? Thanks.
I don't think this type of promotion will get you many members. My opinion is to 1) Put a skin to your forum 2) Make some posts to make it look active (maybe paid posting can help to that) and then start promoting it.
Thanks for the feedback. I've tried paid posting once (for a guitar forum), but it didn't work out too well (in my opinion, because of the fluffiness of most posts). ANyone else have experience paying people to post?
Hi, I've recently tried paid posting for a health site that I owned and it worked great! It populated my forum and brought in lots of other posters to my site who may not have participate if my site was empty. I know what you mean about the "fluffiness" of the posts when you hire a posting company, however, the reason paid posting worked for me is, instead of going through a posting service, I hired several writers to post on my forum for me. What I did was, since my forum is about health, I hired several health writers from the ghostwriting site in my signature . However, before hiring them I made sure that they had sufficient health writing experience...and boy what a succes it's turning out to be! In the end what I'm getting is good quality posts filled with lots of useful information that is filling up my forum and bringing in lots of visitors. So, why not hire a few writers that are experienced in writing about your topic? You may be pleasantly surprised. Sunshine
Paid posting is good for health and related subjects where everyone has a personal opinion. For other topics, it is not of much help
Update the content by starting a few threads and making posts regularly. Ask your friends and family to join and contribute. Keep the conversations going to make the place look busy. For promotion have the forum link in the signature of other seo forums where you participate and make posts.
Thanks everyone for the advice. Quick question for sunshine: how much did you spend on hiring specific writers? Though much higher quality, it also sounds like a more expensive alternative to those paid forum posting services.
Hi, I thought hiring writers for forum postings would be expensive too. And so that's why I shyed away from it for awhile but boy, was I wrong. When I did my research on it I found people paying about $6 for 50 posts. So if you want 4 posters that's under $24. Not bad for a month's worth of posting and considering the quality you're getting. Sunshine
I have to disagree with you there. There are probably countless topics that a good writer can write on - this is not limited to personal opinion articles. Someone who is a good writer and researcher can write about any subject matter. Sunshine
I am not talking about writers who will research a topic, about general posters who will post for 2c a post
Sunshine, I took your suggestion and have posted a project on GhostWriter. Let's hope I have as much success.
Can you tell me where you found such cheap posters? Also, just a follow-up question to my last reply. I haven't received any bids or anything from the ghostwriters service yet. Does anyone know of any similar services they'd recommend? Thanks.
