I am not sure what would be the best way to attract new members to my marijuana forum, I have a few members that were paid posters to get the site off the ground, but now I am looking for good members. More Member = More Affiliate Sales = More Money for Me! What would you guys suggest to get more members? What else can I do to get my site more popular?
Stupid? How do you even justify what you are saying? Just because YOU don't like marijuana doesn't give you the right to be a complete asshole. I suggest keeping to yourself from now on, for your own good.
If you can not help the thread creator out, please don't reply. Anyone can create a forum about any subject they want to. Do you get this way when you go to the "adult forum" also? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For the thread creator... Try running a contest to get some active posters and some free promotion going on. Perhaps give free homepage advertising for a month to the winner or something. You can think of a prize to give out. Since your forum is on a debatable subject, it'll stir up some folks. How bout create a debate board for your forums niche. Perhaps that'll get folks posting more but try to not let things go out of line. Debate topics go bad fast sometimes. lol You could try writing a press release or some articles with your forums link in it. The only problem is that, your site might violate there TOS. I'm just taking a guess here so i could be wrong. Work on getting backlinks and keep adding fresh content. I don't know if i'm of any help. Your forums niche is a hard one to promote on sites i use daily. Perhaps try doing a few link exchanges in the DP link exchange section. Perhaps more members on DP can be of any help.
Have you tried link exchanges? Also, on my forum, I made a myspace page and added a link to my site and vise versa. Members started to add me as a friend and then their friends and then their friends. It helped more than I thought it would and I didn't spam..lol
I was thinking of running a contest, giving away something that I feel the users would need, like a scale or a grinder? Or would paypal cash be better? If I do a contest, how would I advertiste it? Should I go to other forums, and let the members know? I was thinking of doing a refferal contest, since that would bring members. I was thinking of writing up a few more recipes, and grow guides, where would I advertise these? Would these help improve SEO? What are backlinks exactly? I see that word thrown around but I am sure what that means, does it mean just how many links I have that point to my site? Do they have marijuana directories? I guess from those results you could try getting into Google Directory in the Cannabis section.
I'm not sure how strict myspace would be but it wouldn't hurt to try it. Once I got friends, I would post bulletins and I would ask my friends to re-post the bulletin for all of their friends to see and it gets the word out. Link exchanges are when you exchange links with affiliate sites. The way I've found some very helpful link exchanges was from reading on here and learning the ropes. Also, submit your site to as many directories as possible. I've found some fantastic directories here on DP. Also, I have found that if you search on google from something related to your site .... ummmm example... Marijuana Smokers "sumbit a site" or "submit a link", you can find some great directories that way. Hope this helps.
Personally from the stoners I've met, they're quite internet-savvy so I'd sugest using paypal cash as the prize. The other advantage ot paypal is that you don't have to mail it, and if they won't want to attach their bank account then they have to spend it online... you mentioned affiliate sales? Convenient. There's a surprising number of people searching the internet for information on marijuana. I get google trafic from people seaching for signs of marijuana toxicity in pets, so it is definitely a viable niche. Backlinks are links on other sites that point towards yours. You might have trouble getting them because of the controversial nature of the topic. Or, you might get them easily by writing controversial articles that people link to, you'll have to try it and see.

Throw an ad in High Times or a magazine and offer a gift certificate to a reputable online-headshop for most member referrals, most informative post, most posts, whatever! Depending on your budget of course ... an ad like that might run $x,xxx.
