Marketing a free prodcut

I have a free product that I would like to market and I'm doing the usual marketing stuff with press releases and a little advertising and some forum posts with sig links and what not.

But what else could be done to market my free product?

Seriously, approach all those freebie sites, they're eager to know. Also forums and sites who want to give away stuff for free.

Yes, you can let DP members know about your product, in this way you are also marketing your free product.

 

yep some of us might like it enough to promote it on our sites or sites.

 

Like TOPS30 said - use the freebie sites. I got an assortment of PR4 and PR5 links and loads of traffic from them.

 

i also have a free product that i want to promote - so this thread is very interesting to me also - i have a free Outlook plugin that imports, exports and backs up your outlook contacts and email addresses..

when dealing with the freebie sites should i always try to get links as well - my site is PR2 currently.. ps - not trying to hijack the thread just interested in it..

 

Make sure that it is clear that people who download the freebie are themselves free to pass it on. If your product is really good, people will pass it on, and they'll be doing the marketing for you!

You haven't said what it is though? Can we see it?

 

Opensource site and their forums might be a good place for your ad, you shold start discussing about your product by creating your own blog as well. Assuming you have unique product digg.com can also help you a lot.
