    Advertise it on other forums.
    Build backlinks to it.
Get paid posters to create some good threads.

Advertise it on forum directories, put it in your sig, pay people to post on it so it improves your content amount for Google to crawl and list in their Search Engine, etc.

Write link articles and publish each on several article publishing site. The more meaty/interesting/nichey the forum topic the better - "How to" articles continue to be popular and are relevant to SEO questions and answers. This way you'll also earn additional AdSense income and it is free...

Just post the backlinks of your forum on differeny forum sites. And also post your links on social bookmarking sites like twiter , digg , eZdia etc. Also use facebook for marketing your forum , so that more and more people will come to know about this

Yes that is right. I agree with you. You can promote your forum by posting on
different social bookmarking sites. paid posters is also a technique to your forum
to getting more popular. Also offering do follow signature in every post. And make
in the beginning no hard and fast roles for creating threads.

Definitely network with other forum veterans. You can always learn from them, and most will actually give you a lot of beginner's tips.

A forum can be a bit tough to get running strong.
No one wants to go to a dead forum and a forum can't liven up without some people there.
I've had several forums in the past, some successful, others a waste of time.
My best performers came from the ones where we had competitions and a very dynamic, interactive forum moderator.
Usually this has been a female but in the SEO niche I doubt it matters.
There people want you to show them the money. They are there to learn and share ideas. But most always they are on the look out for opportunities.

I have a gaming forum I haven't looked at in weeks. Bet it's dead except for a couple of spammers... :(
It could be great if someone was in control of it and had a passion for it. Forums do take a lot of time.

Tip: Sometimes having a split personality helps so you can talk to yourself for awhile ;)

My suggestion would be to start some tutorials and place some good information on the site.
Show the people you are worthy and a good teacher.
It is "your" forum so that makes you the pro.
Teach and they will come... lol

    Good Luck!

PS: my forum is a PR 3 somehow and it doesn't matter a bit, it's still dead.

Maybe add some more forum sections, 2 sections is not a whole lot.

Get a new theme for your forum, that PHPBB theme is kinda bland.

Maybe offer some SEO podcast or Ebooks for people to download.
