Im looking for some advice or suggestions of how to promote a new Formula One & motorsport forum.

Im not aiming it at any age group in particular (alougth probably mainly it will attract male users in the age range of 16-40) .. and obviously im aware i could pay to advertise on other formula one or motorsport related sites... but im looking for more ideas.

They can be free or paid options, i dont mind as i do have a decent budget to promote it. :)

    Thanks.

I would suggest a PPC campaign, on both search and content network. Max out your campaign. And the campaign should entice people to sign up, so people don't just click and then walk away. Create some interesting discussion topics, that people can only view after registration. You can remove this feature after you have finished your campaign.

You already said ads in other forums... :)

    Hi Blogspotter,

Thanks for the suggestion, I had not really thought about PPC :)

If i made the interesting topics only viewable after registration though im confused as to how this would entice people to sign up? Would i not be better to leave the topics open to view but require registration before a reply could be posted? or am i missing the point..

    Thanks,
    madtay

Depending on your budget, you have a number of options at your disposal including press releases, ezines, newsletters, pay-per-click, offline magazines and my two favorites, forum marketing and article marketing.

Thanks for your suggestions. Off line advertising is an option i have not thought about either, im not sure that would be in my budget but it will be worth looking into :)

What about a blog? I have an idea in my mind. Would you be interested in a JV?
Try me with any question about F1, so I can prove my 'F1 Nut' status!!

Also, I have an idea for a driving e-book/course.

    Just look at my name!

Write some articles, get an interview with someone thats involved in Formula 1 and publish a good press release, or post it on a blog. Create some banners and have them put up on sites of similar interest.

There is a lot of the good old generic online advertising you can do, eg:

    Submitting to directories
Writing Articles related to Formula One and publishing them online
    Google Adwords
    Improving SEO
    Etc

I’d suggest possibly creating a “News” section of the forum, where you can post regularly. By doing that you’ll always have up-to-date content on relevant stories thus making the forum more topical. But more importantly, you’ll also be giving the search engines a lot more keyword rich content to index that isn’t just inane chatter.

    Hi,

Just wanted to update all those that made suggestions. I started an campaign with google adwords, with a fairly decent budget, and have also enquired about some magazine advertising and a f1 news website advertising (im waiting to hear from them regarding costs etc). Will post back with how it goes in a few weeks when i have had chance to see how well they are working. Thanks again for all the suggestions :)

    Much appreciated.
