You need to engage your audience, but before that you must KNOW who your target audience is?

Is this country music, is this pop, hip hop etc? You need to know this so that you can tailor all your marketing to them. If your audience is young people then go where they go, both online and offline and market to them.

You can use facebook ads as they target demographic, location, age, gender and likes.......

Flyers with QR codes that lead to a competition - or get them to "like" and "share" your bands facebook page in return for something free!

Honestly, there are soooo many ways to market a band =)

    Best of luck

Creating a Facebook page for the band could work. You could upload images of the band and their performances, upload their music, etc. -- you could also upload performances on Youtube and provide a link to the FB page (and vice versa).

We took a string quartet in Glasgow from obscurity to being number 1 in the area and increasing their bookings 8 fold using Facebook Pages, YouTube videos, SEO and also forum marketing.

You could try out using music subreddits on Reddit. If the community there likes it, it can help up out significantly with traffic and exposure.

social marketing probably would be your best approach here. make videos of your music, use youtube and other similar sites.

As funny as this may sound, you might want to consider going to local grocery stores, universities, and coffee shops and posting a bulletin board flier with date and time details of an upcoming performance (even little tabs they can rip off at the bottom with more info or the dates and times etc). It may sound silly, but tons of people read these 'cork boards' which can give you significant exposure.

    Try it!

This is superb advice from a noob (jokes jokes).

In terms of offline marketing, you could create a demo CD and hand it out at parties. Or you could do flyers at events or even at parties you don't go to, just hand them to partygoers outside them.

With regard to an online presence I'd get a website online for your band. In terms of a social media presence get on FB and Youtube.
