Marketing a 3 Letter Domain?

Hi, I have a nice 3 letter domain name that is currently parked. It is getting some nice traffic, but I want to start planning on selling it in the next year or two. The parked page is generating revenue from sports betting.

Here is my question, if I submit this parked domain to a bunch of directories using one of those here at DP AND consistantly write and submit articles on a regular basis, will this increase my backlinks and PR?

I can write 2-3 articles per week.

Ideally, with this work I want to create thousands of backlinks and have a nice PR, so I can sell for much higher than I would today, with a low-zero PR and very few backlinks!

Would this approach work for a "Parked Domain"?

Submitting to directories will increase your backlinks, and, in essense, raise your PR for sure.

You would need to get hosting for the site to write articles for it though, no longer making it "parked".

If the domain is so good, would you not be better selling it as a domain rather than a domain with PR and some content?

If I was paying 'big bucks' for a great domain, I would prefer a virgin domain rather than one that has some general content.

A truly great domain name does not require PR, anyone who wants the name would want it just for that, the PR is irrelevant (unless, you can possibly get it to PR7+)

    Just my 2c worth.

I think three letter domain names are worth quite a bit undeveloped. I would just sell it.

i agree as well. Sell it, it isn't worth the investment, i know for a fact that there aren't anymore 3 letter domains available for registering, so you should make quite a bargain.

Just sell it. No need to go through the hassle of working up PR.

Brand the name as something if you are going to sell it. WZA looks like nothing unless you come up with a use/meaning for the letters.

Selling it raw allows you to access more potential buyers. having content will eliminate most unless they are going to redo the whole site and your pr becomes useless if not relevant. Save yourself the time.

If you create good paying adsense content you have a "lifelong" income from it. If you sell it you have a once off income which you will blow in the first month anyway.

Adding more content, working on back links and pr might do more harm than good. A true 3 letter domain name has a lot of value in itself. Chances are the highest buyers would be a domain name investor who wants this for their portfolio, or an existing company who wants it as an abbreviation. So your content may not be relevant for a future buyer.

If it's not a .com develop it.. If it's a .com sell it.. average value 5 to 10k. .. unless a word or premium acronym which can bring it higher.

I wouldn't bother trying to generate backlinks pr or content.
instead find companied who's company name as an acronym is the same as your domain. Contact them and mention the domain is for sale.

I would value a 3 letter domain based on the relevance to my business and how easy it is to remember, not by the untargeted traffic it getting.

what do you think Nintendo paid for wii.com? It would not have mattered if it had a PR7 with content about workers in India, or just random articles. they'd buy it regardless.

But don't forget, if they have a trademark of the the 3 letter acronym or word, theoretically they could make you give it up for the standard cost of a domain name. $8 :)

Directory submissions will not work for the most part because directory owners will not approve the site since the domain is just parked.

Article submission would help since every link you get to a site helps.

I would strongly recommend building some type of site on the domain, this will make it much easier to get links especially from directories, however I want to point out that most directory listings won't help much unless the directories are of high quality.
