Market Research Help

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about setting up an e-commerce website. However, before investing the time & money, I'm doing some research to try to see if there's a market for what I'm looking for or not.

Here's what I have so far:
- Keyword research has yielded no outcome, all tool estimates give me the result that there's not enough traffic. I used Alexa, Google and a couple of other tools to do my research
- Searching online, I can see there's a handful of sites out there operating, some have been out there since 1999!

My thinking is, there must be a market there, otherwise, there wouldn't be people working on it since 99, right?

I also know there's not going to be thousands and thousand of people every day because it's a very niche market targeted to certain people only. My initial estimate is that I'll probably get 1 sale a day or so, but since this is going to be $100+, it would be all I would need for now.

What do you think, is there anything else I can use in my research to help me unearth more information?

Bot sure what you mean by more specific... I'm basically trying to find more data about the sites. Anything.

Are there any tools out there that can help? What do people usually use when doing market research?

Here's the whole thing; I'm thinking about setting up a site to send gifts to Egypt. The idea being, a lot of people from Egypt are living abroad, and they sure want to send gifts to their family and friends back home.

If you try searching for "send gift to Egypt" on Google, Yahoo & Bing, you'll get a handful of sites; 1 or 2 of which actually have PPC campaigns running and have been running since 99. This indicates that is a market there, albeit a small one (basically Egyptians living abroad).

Try looking up any of the resulting sites on Alexa, Google Insights or any similar site, you'll find a common comment of "not enough data".

What I'm trying to do is dig further into this to try to find more information, is there anything else I can do? Or is this all I have at my disposal?
