Marijuana - What are your thoughts?

    Hello,

I'd like to hear everyones' thoughts on marijuana. Personally, I used to be a very active marijuana user for about a 4 year period of my life, however I haven't smoked in a long time. I do believe it should be legalized, and overall is alot less harmful than tobacco and alcohol. So my questions are: Do you smoke? Do you think it should be legalized?

    Regards,

    John

I don't smoke MJ, never did; hate the smell. Whether or not it should be legalized doesn't matter. Because even if it was, I wouldnt' smoke it, never would and I'd still hate the smell. ;)

I probably haven't smoked it in the last 4 or 5 years, i've never bought it personally, and I probably have only smoked it while drinking. I definately believe that MJ should be legalized. Just think about the millions and millions of dollars governments are wasting tring to keep the stuff out of our hands. If the government was smart, they'd be selling it themselves....

My thoughts on marijuana generally tend to be "munchies"

Havnt smoked in a long time though but I still think it should be legalised, its a plant for gods sake, and I dont believe in victimless crime.

it shouldn't be legalized but it should be available in medication sources.
and like wise it shouldnt be consumed and made available to young kids
and adults (but then its hard to contorl those)

If it stays illegal, than alcohol and tobacco should be banned also. WTF! M.J. Never killed anyone or made anyone go mentally retarded. It doesn't turn your skin pale and drain your spinal fluid or create a vitamin C deficiency in your body and make your teeth fall out.
There are lies that the government tells us every day. Do you know why we believe them? Because most of us are blindfolded, led by someone we really don't trust in the first place. AND Because most of us automatically judge something labeled "drug" as some super dangerous poison that will get us addicted and kill us all.

When people say drugs are bad. Does that mean we shouldn't take aspirin, of course not. Most people group marijuana with crack and speed etc. Instead of being blindsided and trusting the government, do some research.

Things aren't always what the government tells us.:D

Something more than research can be entertained in this regard. How about time and experience?

I have seen marijuana damage many people over a 30 year period and these ones never touched any other drugs. The government has nothing to do with what you can see for yourself. I smoked it a very long time ago and quite heavily too. The friends I smoked it with are long gone.

I am not saying it has this effect on all people. However, it would be safe to say it would effect a majority in this way.

It depends on how much you drink, take care of your body etc. But I guess it effects people in different ways. I'm not saying that doing it 24/7 is good, it's also not great for your lungs. Drinking too much coffee isn't good either, or eating too much. With everything, use moderation(accept for crack:D). We still don't know a whole lot about it either.

Perhaps but compared to Drink its very mild.
Anyone drinking for 30 years heavily would be dead as well.
In my experience its no worse than drink, and probably a lot better in most cases.
Makes you lazy but thats about it, its the tobacco that will cause health issues.

So is cocaine, opium, salvia, and many other drugs - all derived from a plant. Just because it comes from something green doesn't make it safe people :)

I believe drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products are mostly harmless most of the time for most users. But that's a moot point. More important is that they are terribly harmful some of the time for some users. The benefits (if there are any) to the majority don't outweigh the harm to the minority and I believe the world would be a better place without drugs, alcohol, or tobacco.

If making them illegal would stop people from using them, then I would say make them all illegal. But realistically, making them illegal won't prevent their use. It will just result in abusive users being even less likely to seek help. I don't have a solution, but I'm confident that simply making all addictive/dangerous substance illegal is not the best solution.

In the same way drinking every day would destroy your brain/liver/whatever if you did it every day.

And why do you say that?
At least marijuana has a much lower chance of physical addiction is much lower than alcohol. 10% of everyday smokers if I recall correctly get a physical addiction. Take a bunch of every day drinkers together, and I can guarantee more than 10% will be physically addicted.
And before the "gateway drug" argument comes up, I'll point out that's crap. First of all, the majority of marijuana users will not stray to hard drugs.
But for those that do crossover, it's not because of the marijuana itself. It's because in order to get marijuana, you have to talk to drug dealers. Drug dealers that frequently stock other drugs. If it was available at your local 7/11 or Speedway station, this would not occur.

I used to be a heavy smoker myself. Not so much the physical addiction, although here in australia it's pretty common to mix pot with tobacco when smoking, but moreso the mental addiction. Smoking regularly makes you mentally weak, you lose motivation in life, it clouds your mind because your always stoned. Plus what I have seen it has done to mates, its not a good thing.

I never used it but I'm happy its legal where I live :)
People will use it whether its legal or not.. as long as it doesn't harm people as much as hard drugs why not give them the right to smoke it :)
