Many sites ranking high for many competitive keywords without .........

    great effort in optimising for SERPS. Yes, they probably have optimized their title but other than that their articles do not seem to be too optimized in terms of keywords in the copy and meta tags (very few sites for example use H1, H2, H3 tags at all), yet they rank high for many competitive keywords. Admittedly, many of these sites have 10's of thousands of one way links. Does this suggest one way links are extremely important in ranking high and much more so than on page optimization?

    Certainly inbound links are most important factor for top ranks.
