Many sites or One site - Suggestions needed

I need suggestions from people who have had this kind of experience.

Is it better to have multiple sites in same niche or have one website. I mean is it better to have a website on Hollywood Actors which has info on all the Hollywood Actors or a website dedicated to maybe Arnold, a website dedicated to Tom Cruise etc. I have seen lot of DP members build individual websites and link them to each other. I personally feel, its better to have one website with all the info something like..hollywoodactors.com/arnold hollywoodactors.com/tom-cruise rather than arnold.com & tomcruise.com.

I might be wrong and suggestions from people who have tried both the methods is appreciated.

I am not sure if I am posting this in the right forum. This was the closest so posted here.

It depends upon what you are trying to accomplish. Just remember that the market is a LOT more competitive for broader keywords. For example, it is more difficult to rank high for "movies" than for "Tom Cruise Movies".

If your movies and pics are targeted to particular one actor than you should have separate website for it.

Having 3-4 sites in the same niche could be a good idea. You will be able to get related links fairly easy.
However running an exaggerated number of sites in the same niche will have a deep impact on the quality of those sites.
You just won't have the time to handle that much sites.

I have several sites (see sig) sort of in the same market.

One thing (obviously) about multiple sites is that you can try tactics on one site and compare to the others...

E.g., does a Yahoo directory listing work? Well, try it on the one site... and see if you bump that site's traffic, etc.

On the other hand, I will note that you end up spreading your link building efforts... ugh

Frankly its not easy to brand the product with so many different domains. multiple sites are good for kinda affiliate purposes or for targeting different niche to make more money online. Still its hard work which pays. One of my friend here at DP have some 900 sites for the similar reasons......

In my personal opinion and experience, The overall goal is to gain money correct?

so in my opinion, I would say make 1 site and develop it and try to get some high ranking keywords.

because if you have 2 sites and neither of them rank very well, you dont get any traffic.

But, if you can get 2 sites to rank very well (very hard) then your good to go with 2.

I would say, that if you have enough content (10+ pages) for each actor, then make separate sites. However, if you only have a few pages of content, then you should put them all on one site.

I feel like its better to have one for each related topic cause then you only have to build back links for 1 of them instead of alot.

My suggestion would be to run the different sites, but through 2-3 different hosting packages... that way you get different IPs, so when you link between each, the links are worth more. Also, having multiple sites, you can sell your site-wide advertising for multiple sites, instead of just one site.

it depends on the competition, if theres a ton of Tom Cruise sites maybe it would be better to make a Movie Star site and then make a section that describes Tom Cruise, theres alot more flexability that way and less chance of getting in trouble from a movie star who doesent want you profitting from them

If you have enough content, you could split your site up into "sub niches" and run around 3 sep sites.
