I think you should introduce something to attract like have done is that Sticked a post where i have mentioned that make 1000 posts and i will made you Moderator and after being mod you have to post 200 posts/week.........so you should introduce something like that and Make announcement of that and certainly you will get users back and this time with making posts

    Enjoy!

haha, wished that wld work. Why wld ppl fight to be moderators? Esp if your forum is just starting out, and is relatively quiet, i don't see why ppl wld be interested to rise to that position and still have to make 200 posts/wk

Let me know if that works out ;)

As suggested, spammers is one option. If they have www links that go to MFA sites then they're there just for the backlink.

    Delete them.

But every forum will have lurkers. I'd not be surprised if only 10% of legitimate (human) members are active.

Well look their username out. Find out if they inserted their website in their URL. IF so this is an obvious spam in order for others to click on their homepage.

IF this is the situation. Make a rule and or go into your Cpanel and require the sign ups and new users to make so many posts before their signatures and or homepage website/URL's go active.

Maybe some people register to keep track of new posts...
    Just my 2 cents.

I had this happen before on a phpbb forums. It could also be because of spambots signing up. Make sure your forums has alot of good signup security. I don't use phpBB now as I have purchased vbulletin. Much better software I say.

The case study is right here in front of us. I am on the 29th post with 364 views. The members who view are most likely the owners of a forum. This is a premium cap. However the %age of reply to this thread is just 8% which is vulgarly below any decent forum standard. Using this index, we can fairly evaluate why members do not post.

I am experiencing this as well. My forum allows guests to read and post, yet people keep registering and never return, most are activating their account. They are people without websites, none have linked to a site and I've yet to be spammed. I was wondering as well why they sign up if they don't want to post and I figure maybe it's cause they think there's more forums to read once logged in... perhaps.

This happens with alot of things. People always signs up and never posts. Happens all the time. It also is a big occurance in affiliate programs aswell where people will always signup and never become active.
