Manual. Automated link programs may work for a short time, but when it stops working, you'll be out in the cold. Think long term and build quality links.

IMO manual submission is much better rather than using some softwares...submit your site to link directories, create articles and submit them to article directories and exchange links with relevant, quality, and trusted links....

Star way from anything like gotlinks as they as simply a link farm and will hurt your site. Try to get as many manual/directory linking partners as you can.

I would strongly recommend manual exchanges. Select some quality sites, do your research and then request an exchange. Much better in my opinion.

Go for one-way links from link/article directories . The reciprocal/exchanged links are less valuable.

I like automated link exchanges, though some are better than others (see sig). I tried GotLinks, but I didn't see any benefit from it, so I eventually gave up on it. However, it is important make use of other link building resources, e.g. directories, reciprocal, etc.

I think the best way is semi-automated. It's when you rely on software to do most of the time-consuming things for you, but manually approve every link.

Completely automated solutions will eventually get your site into trouble.

And for the record, I use LinkAssistant SEO Tool to manage my reciprocal and one-way linking.

    Hope this helps,

Do you have any facts to back this statement up? Yes, I know link/article directories are one way links as opposed to a two way link exchange. But, is a link in a cookie cutter directory really better than a reciprocated link with a high quality site in your field?

How does anyone know for sure which link a search engine will put more value on? I do exchanges, as well as article/link submissions, but I sometimes wonder how anyone really knows for sure which is better.

yeah submit and buy links can help... but you also also build blog and such to have your links on there forever.
