Does google care if I publish a blog post and put the date in the past? For example if I make a post today but put the date of the post to be three months ago?

I do not think Google would care much about your manipulated date on your blog but your content is far more impact in my opinion. If your blog has only date changed then it will be easier for Google to detect a trick, but not a major factor to drop your website ranking anyway.

Ok thank your for your responses. That's very helpful :)

It makes sense to me that google wouldn't care too much, but I just wasn't sure.

Noone cares ... I moved a large slab of content from undated to undated, totally new format, new URLs, the works, and I put the original dates on as I was putting them in. I didn't exactly get a letter from google complaining I had a blog entry dated april 2003 that only appeared last week.

Normally, Google won't care about it.. what is important is the weight content of your blog.. If you post copied blog then change the date, then that might be when Google would care.. but as long as you put relevant and nice contents on it your on the roll

Why manipulate it btw? I can't sense any reason manipulating it and if its a heavy reason don't share it it must be that very heavy to share :D

The spiders don't index your whole site at once. So there can't really be any negative impact on doing something like this.
With that said i never changed date/time myself so I can't say for sure.

I dont think there will be any effect on Google itself. Just ping the post once up. I do manipulate the dates in my blog posts once in a while and there is no difference at all.

The date is just part of the content and it is not a special signal for Google to consider so there is no problem with it.

Google could care less what you date your posts. There is nothing prohibiting this in their webmaster guidelines. Date it 1776 if you want or 2112 (great Rush album BTW).
