Managing your site

Running a web site and continually promoting it is a big job with a lot of little tasks associated with it - submitting to directories, adding and updating content, dealing with contacts and spam, press releases, etc.

I'm hoping to template my task list in order to make breaking into other areas a little bit simpler the next time I want to build and promote a site.

I'm wondering what solutions you use for site management and how you integrate them into your daily chores.

Generally I go with what I think of at the time, or what seems pressing.

The idea of making a full routine start to finish would probably make me far more efficient, but I dont get as bored if I switch around whenever I feel the urge.

Although I always, register the domain, place a holding page and get it indexed first.

Also, it depends if the sites are for you or clients - delivery of client content varies so much in quality and time that it could often control the order you do things anyway :)

yeah i do whatever i feel like doing, or if theres a bug somewhere on my site ill splatter that before adding new content.

generally i prefer to make sure old content is spot on before adding new content since after time you will have to fix them anyway.

also some days it dosnt hurt to do nothing at all, its great for thinking up new ideas

The idea of a task list organizing the promotion of a site from start to finish sounds quite intriguing. Historically, I have performed similar routines for multiple clients on the same day taking advantage of time (e.g. placing multiple client links at same directories, submitting pretyped content to press release sites, etc.). I would be very interested in seeing how an organized task list for a singular project would perform better overall.

Could be quite a learning experience. :)
