This one is pretty funny... but even funnier because I saw the guy in a forum bragging about it. :)

Gee, maybe they called you there to get your extortion attempt on tape, not because they they are shaking in their boots... did that ever cross your mind?

Of course, now he will probably try to sue me for defamation of character. :)

The strange thing about all this and the press coverage is that nobody seems to understand how AdSense works. Google really didn't stand to lose anything. All the false click that this guy would have generated would have been charged back to the advertisers.

Now you can argue that if it was carried to an extreme It would have cost Google business, but essentially the guy was trying to extort the wrong victim.

If all the people in this forum setup a system of random reciprocal AdSense clicking -- I click your sites, you click mine -- the only person(s) who will be hurt financially are the advertisers. Google will simply invoice the advertisers for each click. At least until somebody figures out the scam and catches us.

It still amazes me that people can be so naive to believe that they can get away with this stuff.

Yep, and ultimately this would be bad for Google too. No one will continue to pay for clicks for very long that aren't generating any business or leads.

Doesn't CTR take care of cases like reciprocal clicking
