Mambo vs. Joomla - Which is Bestter?

I have used Mambo for a few years. It was the original of the two. I use a great component for both Mambo and Joomla called Facileforms.

I have a new site I will be working on and wonder what is the advantage of going with Joomla? Seems like they came from the same idea and similar security features. Is one more secure or updated and managed better? Does one have more support?

It looks like initially when Joomla came to be it was the most popular for new users, but Mambo has come back since it remains completely open source.

Which one has the best components and add ons?

Liked to get your opinions and feedback - Thanks! :D

I feel Joomla is going ahead in right direction as far as development (and new features, modules) are concerned. I suggest to with that.

Joomla is awesome but involves endless work on seo and other things. Personally I think the support sucks giant hairy balls.

Thanks for the input. I have found many threads on the internet on this subject; always depends on individual experience. My thought is Joomla had advantage of starting over and doing things from scratch, also some politics since the developers of original Mambo had split away.

I have a Mambo site I recently update to recent 4.6.x version. This was not an easy task at all. When all was done some components I depend on do not work anymore. In particular I was using Group Access component to restrict menu items to particular groups I created. I am now looking at Community Builder component to do this but still not sure if it has these functions. Also, initial install failed.

Unfortunately the Mambo split caused some headaches for some. Looks like eventually the two CMS will become more unique and more obvious differences will happen. At this time my comment is Mambo developers are trying to make the leap with the recent 4.6.x. There are most likely more changes coming and more headaches.

I found the Migration link. It does not cover migration of Mambo 4.6.x. I looked at this just out of curiosity; not convinced I need to do the migration yet.

So far from what I see Joomla has better support for components and modules; this is important. In general security and community support look similar. Going forward if I start a new site I believe I would use Joomla.
