Malware on site through an ad network?

Not sure if this is the place to ask this, but has anyone experienced malware served through an ad network where you display their ads on your site. Thing is, this happened to one of my newer sites from isocket.com... they sell ad space for you and people get to sign up and serve ads through your code already placed on your site. You have full control to approve of decline/remove ads through the account. But recently, they served me malware and google blocked several pages of my site. I removed the ad code and google still had me blocked for about another 8 hours. How are people able to do this???

Do they sign up with ad networks and then send malware to sites without the admins knowing? This is bad because google does not like this and it may hurt rankings.
