I have an observation:

That sign says "God Bless Hitler"

Other signs have said "Bush == Hitler"

An 18 year old saved by Americans murders Americans.

If we put the two signs together they say "God Bless Bush"

And this ends todays lesson on cognitive dissonance. When you don't know who the enemy is it readily explains why you become paranoid and just start killing anyone.

The guys family was on TV this morning, trying to plead their case that the family is not terrorists....and I agree with that statement, the family is not, but this animal is a terrorist. Just imagine if this had been a Jew who did this, or a mormon, or a christian? Religion would be broadcast by every media outlet then...

The religious background of the mass murderers of our times are, to my knowledge, not discussed; if so, I don't know if it's made anything but incidental.

Except in this instance. Families lost loved ones. Mourn for them - including the family of this sick, young, dead, man.

the religious background is a big deal...remember Dennis Rader, the BTK killer? he was a Lutheran...his church was all over the news for weeks....again, if this was a christian or a jew...it would be all over the news.

I just grabbed up several articles as randomly as possible, that should be as exemplary of what was written about your subject as possible; if there was a pattern, I would expect to see it. But in these articles, and others I didn't post, we have the incidental mention of his background - anywhere from a mere 0.2% to 1.2% - and nothing on the order of what this thread has done in ascribing this sick young man's murder spree to some fanatical Islam. These articles mention his affiliation, as it is a paradox - the family man, member of his community, etc., who turned out to be the BTK killer.

This is absurd, in my opinion. D16, if you have proof of what you are saying, I would view it with an open mind. As it stands, it smacks of the very "victim mentality" you disparage elsewhere. No one that I can see says "BTK - lunatic Lutheran!!!!!!!!" They just look on in horror. Much as for the story that concerns this thread.

Thanks for the sources...I just remember (and was referring to) him and his church being all over the TV news....even his bishop was interviewed when they found out that he was the church council president...furthermore, it has been all over the news for the last week how a Lutheran pastor in Georgia was removed from his church just because he was in an open gay relationship...and technically that is not even a crime...however, CNN, MSNBC, FOX, ABC, they all carried it...religion is extremely important in the USA, unless of course you are muslim, which was my original point. JMO though...

 

Can you see how the religion becomes a subject of discussion when a PASTOR is in open gay relationship? I take it back, most likely you can not.

There is even TV programs by different churches and during Christmas they show the Vatican and the pope on the TV, so may be you can use it as excuse to spread your hatred and bigotry.

I second that....I have no such hate or bigortry for the pope, rome, or the church...what I do have a dislike of is the "kill the infidels" attitude portrayed by many, but not all, muslims....

Don't worry, even after 6 years of this administration there is enough free speech rights left that you can disagree with bigots without being scared that they are going to send you to Guantanamo bay.

 

I only fear religious fervor in political thought - and neither side of the political spectrum has the corner on babblespeak.

I try think for myself, admit my mistakes, and not be afraid to change my opinion based on available evidence. I don't always succeed, but it's what I shoot for.
