The X-Men star, recently celebrated his 39th Birthday on October 12th in a relatively intimate party in Melbourne. Born in 1968 in Pymble, New South Wales, Jackman had his first experience in acting when he took part in a stage production of My Fair Lady in his high school in ’85. He went on to attend the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts of Edith Cowan University in Perth and completed his graduation from the institute in 1994. His first major acting work was an Australian Television series called Correlli. It was on the sets of this production that he met actress Deborra-Lee Furness, whom he married in April ’96. Hugh Jackman’s major success in acting came at the turn of the century in Hollywood movies like Kate and Leopold (2000), Swordfish (2001) and most importantly X-Men (2000). Playing the character of Wolverine in this film, he turned into a star almost overnight. He reprised the role later for the sequels X2 (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). Among his other notable performances are Someone Like You… (2001), Standing Room Only (2005) and The Prestige (2006).
