Making themes widget ready

I have the Pool theme and have looked everywhere for a way to make it Widget Friendly and I have had no luck.

Can anyone help - not having widgets is hurting my traffic.

    Thanks.

I've found that widgets increase the amount of code necessary to do something (which is why I prefer plugins since I can edit the code - and I'm a relative newcomer when it comes to PHP). Why do you really want to use a widget anyway (I'm presuming this is for WordPress, if not, please accept my humble apologies)?

It is for Wordpress. The new version of Wordpress has a widgets plug-in bundled with the installation. It means if I can convert my current them to be widget ready then it is a simple matter of clicking and dragging the widgets I want into the sidebar. Surely that is simpler than using any code at all.

If you see my blog, the reason I want the widgets is to add a "Recent Posts" "Top Posts" and "Recent Comments" sections. At this point in time my "Recent Posts" section only includes the Category and this annoying because it is not ordered by date.

I believe that people will spend more time looking at my site because the Post Names will be more attractive than the Category names.

PS. If there is a quality plug-in that could do this - and still look coherent with my theme - please let me know.

This is what is bundled in with the new Wordpress. It would work if my theme is widget-ready. The reason why it won't work is because my theme isn't widget-ready.
