Making sense of quality score...

I'm new to Adwords and I'm trying to make sense of the quality score...

I have a number of keyword combinations in my ad campaign. In particular I have the place I'm situated followed by the product I sell; so:

    "place product"

For some reason I'm being told the quality score is poor, even though both keywords are mentioned in the ad and the landing page has those keywords (and is a business website). The minimum bid has soared from £0.05 when I started the account on Friday to £2.50 this morning...

However, I have a similar keyword combination which is the place I'm situated followed by the plural of the product:

    "place products"

And this has stayed at £0.05 and the quality score is Ok, even though the plural of the product isn't mentioned in the ad itself...

Any thoughts and/or advice gratefully accepted!

Try to place both keywords in separate ad groups.

Firstly, you want the singular and plurals in different adgroups, and both should have the phrase in the title (single for the single version, plural for the plural version).

This should certainly help. How's your clickthrough rate?

Thank you for the advice! I took it, created separate ad groups for each combination of key words (making sure that the key words were in the title) and now the quality score is rated as being either Great or OK and, consequently, my price per click has dropped dramatically...

Once again, thanks very much!
