I was about to launch a site on a subject that i'm very profecient in(finance sector), I have written about 18 thorough unique articles. I planned on starting a blog, launching forums etc..the whole package Im now thinking about aggregating all my articles into an ebook that I would sell for about $30-50 a pop. Im trying to weigh the pro and cons of each, what do yall think?
I think that would be a foolish thing to do. Unless you have a very large, established name in the industry already it will be like pushing a rope to get most people to buy that $50 ebook. Additionally, if the info really is good, it will spread like wildfire if it caught on anyway, and people will be pirating it anyway. There are plenty of other ways to monetize. I just think an ebook is a bad way to go.
An ebook can be a great addition to a website. But when starting out without having at least some reputation in your industry will make it difficult to sell. Christoph
I'd also suggest you should make a site and add the ebook as an added resource for the users. You can start with a short free ebook and once you're established, you can work on another 'bigger and better' ebook which people will be willing to buy.
Just another thought.. if you have some 'established' friends in the finance sector, who own a website and send out a regular newsletter.. maybe you can convince them to promote your ebook on their newsletters. Who knows, it might click for you. But then again, you will need an existing website where the users come and get more information from and ask any queries they have.
