Making Money with Travel Website?

I plan to launch a travel website, but I was not sure what would be the best form of ad's to use, or what would be the best way to make money?

I was considering adding a Travel Deals section, is there any reputable travel companies that have an affiliate program? Say they click travel deals and it takes them to orbitz, and if they book I get like 10% or something?

If not, what would you guys suggest?

saturated market overall. There might be some opportunity if you look into the niche segments or get something going locally

Travel market is saturated thus very expensive. It is possible to make some money, but you need to bring something new to the table. If you just open the average website with some blog posts and photos - nothing good will come out of it.
Also, if you don't have any travel knowledge or experience - it will be even harder. You need to know how things work before you can plan some income and expenses.

In any case, good luck :) Keep us posted

if you are thinking in big terms by targeting one country. then make a site which generated leads, sell the leads to tour operaters.
or consider getting xml feeds of hotels, tour packages, tickets

at the moment im working on a site like that. with the visit.<country tld> , so if anyone want to know more info feel free to contact me.

by the way im looking for a investing partner for the promotional side of the site if anyone is interested :)

I have a few generic travel search sites that i do thru WCtravel. There are some other places that can allow you to put your template around their smarts and sell tickets, rooms, etc to anyone in NA/EU and receive a commission. I have lot's of traffic, so i promote these "me too" sites among my brands.

But you can use the tool to add full funtionality for booking travel to a site whose home page and focus is niche. EX "vermont skiing", is the niche with several nice pages about vermont travel plus the generic booking engine off a "Book Anywhere" link on your menu.

one example of finding a way, cheaply in a saturated marketed.

commission junction is without a doubt the best affiliate company for a travel site. they work with everyone from IHG Hotels (largest chain worldwide) to Best Western, Expedia, Travelocity, major airlines, etc. etc. They also have exclusive deals and coupons avaliable to affiliates. It's easy to join and they pay monthly by check or direct deposit.

Philopoemen told about a good point. Online travel industry is a really crowded industry and in order to live, one should bring a new point to online travel. Being precise may be a good approach to the industry.
