You can make $100 by writing 10-15 not too long but a decent quality articles. There are a lot of webmasters who need a fresh content for their sites. Sure if you write an article for a famous site you will earn a lot more.
You can also write articles abt ur site and submit - this will bring huge traffic and thereby earnings !

It's best if you tell people what you want. Your question is to open. Do you want to write articles for other sites and earn from that. If so then people normally charge around $5 - $25 per article. Or do you want to write an article and have affiliate links in it and them distribute it on the larger reprint article directories?

As the business owner (not the writer) it's possible to make nothing to tens of thousands from an article over time. There are way too many factors to even begin to guesstimate what your outcome will be. But, that's the business world. Do your best planning, execute and see where the chips land.
it depends how you choose to monetize it. If you just put the article and then some adsense you have a source. Or you promote an affiliate product in a well written article another source Or you just submit the article for getting traffic, traffic it very precious. Or you just use the article for getting content to your site, and maybe later sell the site, another source.
Yes theres a lot of factors involved.. But the more articles you write and submit then the closer you are to getting a gem of an article that will really do wonders for you..
