Making Money Online With A Make Money Online Website

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by TikTok, Sep 7, 2007.

I was researching different methods of generating money online, and I thought it was funny that many websites make money online by telling people how to make money online. It's a market that has created its own niche.

So out of interest and curiosity, I created a website, and wrote an article on How to make money with a make money online website .

I just want to try and show that people can probably make money in any niche market if they can do it logically, professionally, and invest the right amount of time.

I welcome any (constructive) feedback on the article, the site, or the concept in general.

    Thanks for taking the time!

One thing that has always made me very sceptical of 'make money' websites in general is that they tend to look very cheap and poorly designed.

It's just like every other get rich quick scheme has always been. You get rich quick by selling your method to get rich quick. All the package ends up being is a marketing tool to sell the same package to everyone you know.

I think you missed the point, or maybe you didn't read the article. I'm not selling a package to make money or a scheme to get rich quick. I've created a website within the "make money online" niche, with an intent to make money within that market, not sell an idea to "get rich quick" to anyone.

I intend to make money on my website through traditional channels and revenue streams, but within the "make money online" market. Get it?

I was thinking to use the term "ironic", but instead I will use "smarmy".

Sorry. I didn't mean your website. I was just referring to the fact that it's always been the case that "making money" schemes inevitably were just a pyramid scheme selling the same product, and there was no real content. It's similar on the web, especially within the eBook market that "Make $8billion dollars in 20 minutes with my program" ends up just being an affiliate program, to sell the program that was supposed to have made all the money in the first place. See what I mean? Maybe not. I think I'm even confused now.

Again, didn't mean to downplay your efforts, I was just making a general point about the generic "make money online" type sites. No offense meant. Heck, I run a "make money online" blog, too.

Anyway, I like the theme. The sidebar is a bit buggy (edges don't quite match up). But it's a good start. Once that's fixed, get your adsense to blend a little better on the top. I think that top banner ad could really generate good click-through if blended properly.

Start a Feedburner feed, and make it obvious how to subscribe. This should be above the fold.

Other than that, post every day. Quality content. Ask for links from other similar blogs. The traffic will come in time.

Yes, exactly! And getting more traffic is the name of the game. Or one of the names...

I still believe that having the right keywords in your domain name has strong value. I was able to register this website two weeks ago, so it shows that there are still plenty of "relevant" websites you can build.

Now I could've tried to buy money.com, makemoney.com, or something else more on-target, but I want to "make" money, not spend it. And right now, you'll find that many of those sites are link farms, making their own trickles of revenue from direct type-in traffic.

John Chow, Darren rowse (problogger), shoemoney, doshdosh (?), there's many "make money" blog sites out there. And yes, they make money. As long as you have a SUBNICHE, I'm sure you can enter this fast growing genre of web content and make decent money.

If you need help find a niche demographic to target or need free marketing ideas to reach your target audience, just PM me.

Best of luck to you and remember to keep at it!

I personally like the green tones...very visually pleasing. However I think the links at the very bottom of the page are a bit scrunched up, and as crazy as this sounds it seems like the white adsense bar on the right of the site doesn't blend in too well with that kind of "shadow" effect (for lack of a better term).

But yeah, just keep uploading unique content on your site.

Thanks very much for the feedback so far. Adsense ads can be tricky to blend, especially when you've used gradient fills for the background. I do have the advantage of being able to rotate the banners to put in different blends, so I'll try some combinations.

And green is a great color for money sites. :)

Well written article. I think you will be one of the very few who will be getting their sites reviewed on my blog as it's not about making money online the way most people think but none the less still talks about making money online.

    Remove the default Joomla favicon.

I don't think it's fair, but I think the owners of money.com had money before they had the site. :)

The funny thing about this type of blog is a lot of the topics are recycled from other make money blogs. The same stuff keeps getting rehashed.

I'm not sure that PR updates would have any impact on my efforts, other than the value the PR would have to other webmasters. If someone focuses on their product or service, then PR, traffic, and other successes will follow. Certainly, PR has value to other people coveting PR for themselves, which in itself is a market unto itself. But PR for the sake of PR might be an unfulfilling reward. In the end, it's the value of the entire website that will count. ;)
