Call me old fashioned, but I think it's just a hype that will be gone in a year...I stick with the ".com or forget" rule. It's alot harder to grab good ones nowadays, but I doubt .mobi will ever become a real success story, even if many people jump on this train at the moment.

    I agree. I don't think I have been to a .mobi domain.
I'll give it a few more months to see if it catches on.

Don't they cost more than .com domains?

I really don't see .mobi going very far. It's a 4 character tld and it doesn't roll off the tongue like .com and .biz. And yes .mobi is more expensive; I believe $14.99 at godaddy.

I don't know who to believe. I'm a skeptic, and I don't see .mobi taking off. However, my workmate thinks other wise. He claims to have big plans for .mobi. Reading that article made me more of a doubter, and less of a believer.

Picture it for one second for a blog...MakeMoneyOnline.MOBI.

Or, for a crazy, wacky blog, or whatever to perks people's interest: MarvinGoesMad.MOBI

It could be a site for children's stories: MobyDick.Mobi.

I can see it working, IF, the URL is a grabber.

.mobi isnt going far regardless of hype. Seriously whats it suppose to be short for.. mobile? Too long and two syllables. Also different possible ways to pronounce it. Rubbish

personally with all this web 2.0 stuff and websites turning into communities im becomming a fan of the .org extension

I think mobi is hype, but it might have some potential down the line. I still think there are a lot of good dot com's out there.

I'd believe it. There are a lot of entrepreneurs who think outside the box.

"The List" is a very popular URL that got snapped up quickly. Just about all the extensions have been taken. Fortunately for me, FM was still available.

Let everyone else take the same path. I'll walk the other one.

Frankly, .com is still the standard. Even the non-techies know about .com and that is important. Let us see how it rows out. :)

.com .mobi .biz .org .net, they can all deliver mobile content, there is no benefit of .mobi over the others. Tell a mobile user "widgetbomb.com" and they will remember it, they wont mistake it for widgetbomb.mobi

I'm going to stick with my .com's and .co.uk's (which IMO are just as authorative. At least in the UK :))

I'm still unsure about this craze, I haven't seen the Search Engines really pick up on the domains, and I've never visited a site using the TLD. That has to mean something, either the domains aren't being used wisely, there aren't enough of them, or they are simply useless... take your pick. ;)
