Making money blogging?

Discussion in 'Blogging' started by Xelaetaks, Jul 28, 2013.

Hey everyone. Is it possible to make money blogging on current news and articles in niche topics?

For example I follow a lot of indie rock music related news and also a lot of stuff in movies and tv - some of which might fall under niche kind of areas like comic book movies, etc... I also spend a lot of time online and am working on some websites/online stores, but I'm also very interested in the possibility of a blog that could be fun to keep with and also have potential to make a little extra money while I'm at it.

My question is if I made a blog that got a lot of followers is it possible to monitize and also what blog company would be recommended for doing that? Is blogger one of the more popular ones for that?

    Any ideas are appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hello!

This is absolutely possible. I dont know if this income is urgent or not for you. But a good start would be to setup a wordpress blog (Google likes wordpress, which will be good for ranking and more income potential) and then just write content about the stuff you like. Eventually, as you get more followers, build relationship and trust you will have alot less trouble selling to these people. Get some affiliate links in here and there. Just not everywhere and try not to make it look like a direct sale. Avoid any "crappy" products as these will destroy the trust you have built with your followers.

    Hope that helps!

I completely agree with the acquiring a WordPress blog which is excellent for incorporating seo, blogspot blogs are not bad either. The key is definitely writing good content and the best part is it can be simply be what is on your mind that makes the best, because it is original and there will always be someone out there in cyberspace who is going to enjoy what you have to say. Best of luck to you!

Definitely. Get yourself some shared web hosting and a domain somewhere (this is very cheap) and install WordPress. Most web hosting companies will offer you an easy WP set up wizard to make this easy for you... Once WordPress has been set up and you can find a free theme somewhere or get one custom made for your website. Then all you need to do is blog away!

Sign up for Google Adsense and put the ads on your website to earn revenue. The key to this whole thing is consistancy. Try to post at least 5 new articles a week, 3+ a day is optimal. Even if you go with Blogger, just make sure to post as often as possible and you will do good.

Thanks. It sounds like there is potential for blogging, about different things as well. Could be interesting to see how things go with it. I haven't really done much self hosting wordpress blogs but that could be worth try later on. It could also be interesting to see if blogger can pick up readers like it does with Wordpress. I've done two blogs that help with SEO for other sites and it's interesting how they seem to find people when posting about their products or topic, etc.

You can definitely make money blogging.

The secret, is getting an audience who loves, anticipates, relies on, and shares your stuff.

The best advice I can give is to build an email list, build social media following, and promote your content everywhere you can.

If you're shy about promoting your content, your blog is doomed. (Each time you post a blog, promote it to your email list & social media channels).

Another HUGE variable, is creating content that people actually like.

If people don't like your content, do you think you'll have much luck?

    Food for thought.

    Just one guy's opinion.

You need to be consistent and not just summarize or reproduce the news article but adds on to the article through insightful thoughts or extra information or details. Also you need to be very patient to build up the traffic.

My 2 cents-I would write 1 post around 500 to 1000 words, and another around 200 to 500 words each week. If you are feeling adventuresome, try making a few videos to upload to sites like Youtube and Dailymotion. Comment on relevant forums in your niche and also be willing to test things to see what works and what doesn't work for you as a person. Experiment with revenue sources-your own products, your own services, ads, affiliate links and donations if at all possible. You never know where your biggest revenue sources are going to come from.

Once you get alot of traffic, use Adsense. That's where you should start. Adsense is great for newbies, and it's super easy to use. Look into CPM ads, affiliate marketing, and direct banner advertising too. Best of luck to you.

    Sure thing.

If you can provide quality content, then that's basically half the battle.

It's totally possible to make money through your blog. And not all of them require a large traffic flow. Here's a few:
    1. Portfolio-Write great quality content consistently and your blog will be a shinning example of how well you can write. You can then add a hire me page to your blog, or send out pitch emails to sites you want to write, or produce content for and refer them to your blog for examples. (And yes this can be taken further...much further).

    2. Affiliates-Any products or services related to your niche that you've bought and used? Are you comfortable with endorsing them? Then visit their website and sign up for their affiliate program, then write an honest review about them on your blog. You can augment the review by giving real examples of how the product/service helped you out. Provide a few affiliate links throughout the post and ask your readers to check it out.

    3. Info products-Ideally start with a free info product, an eBook, or video series, or bundle of photographs or artwork that is high quality and high value to your readers. Then once they've used it and loved it, release something that's even better and charge some money for it. Since they already know how great your products are they'll be more likely, and willing to buy.

And no these aren't all the ways, just a few that don't involve Adsense.

    Best of luck,

    -Brian

    Monetizing Your Blog

Now it’s time to monetize your blog so you can start collecting revenue from it! There are several different ways you can add revenue streams to your blog such as Google Adsense Ads, Affiliate Links, and selling your own products. We’ll also cover how to start collecting subscribers to your blog and building your list.

    Google Adsense Ads

This is a form of advertising that involves full text classified ads getting displayed on your websites or blog. Once you apply for the program and get approved, Google will display relevant adsense ads on your website
