I posted something related to Facebook that I didn't really intend to post in the Social Networks section. It was just a goofy post about the new Facebook navigation bar. I wanted it to be in General Chat (that's where I posted it in), yet it was transferred to the Facebook section and I got a warning. Here's that thread: https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/la-da-de-da-da-facebook.2668585/ If it's a goofy social media post, should it still be posted in Social Networks? I mean, if it's the case, it kind of takes the fun out of General Chat and makes other sections cluttered with silly stuff.
While waiting for Mods, I would try to write my opinion. I didn't want to sound disagree with you but here are my opinion: The thread is perfectly suitable in Social Network > Facebook. I think Mod already choose appropriate action. I do understand your opinion to use the thread to discuss about Facebook and its new feature, 'The navigation Bar'. 'Facebook' section above can be used to discuss about it. Btw, I got the same warning for creating thread about 'Google+' in 'General Thread'. If you would like to discuss about it in general Chat, Changing the title is the only option. How about "Navigation Bar Looks Cool". Then you write in first post about navigation Bar and how it affect your opinion to use Social network. In this case, the topic s not about Facebook but 'The Navigation Bar'. By the way, Discussing about it in 'Social network > Facebook' is fun too. There is good reason why DP create separate category for it. Facebook is very popular. All discussion about FB should be moved/written in 'Social Network > Facebook'.
General Chat forum as I understand it is a forum that is supposed to be somewhat boring, frivolous and frankly irrelevant in nature. I do believe that DP does need a forum like this. If General Chat were to get cluttered with serious topics that are actually meaningful, have a point to them and make sense, then this forum would lose it's flavor and purpose. So please stop trying to add intelligent discussion/topics to General Chat, you are screwing it up!
I thought "General chat" was for Generals to chat about the stuff other folks who are not Generals talk about in the other topic specific forums, DOH me and my Homer Simpson moments...
@Spoilt and @Revel - LOL. I am trying to ask a serious question here. I got a warning for nothing. I don't like getting warnings for nothing.
You got a warning not for nothing. Writing thread in wrong category will always result in Warning. Read the rule available HERE. It clearly describe: "Start threads in the most relevant forum category". Your thread here is 'Asking Mods to make General Chat Flexible'. Think about this, What will happen if all people writing about Facebook, SEO, and many others in General Chat?
Well to be serious then it's best making it clear when positng as it is difficult to see sometimes what a post can be about. I did one about Bing SERPS recently but it wasn't about Bing it was about SEO and SEO for Bing but not about Bing or Microsoft the company per se, if you get my drift, so tried to make that point clear. It remained in the SEO forum but could easily have resulted in a move to Bing if I had not specified it was a about SEO. I did one in the general chat forums which is supposed to be about a code I found, but because it begins with stuff that seems to have religious connotations it is down with the religion and politics talk which is useless for my wanting help decrypting some code I found or a serious conversation about it, just because the code just happens to have some defence machanism built in to it's security based around peoples perceptions of words or certain ones being of a religious context. However if something is about FB then unless it is really nowt whatsover to do wiht FB making that clear is something you are going to need to try and do as it is very hard to see beyond what is perceived whether it is meant to be about somehting or not in my experience. Thing is though sounds like your post/thread was about FB so...
