Making A Site That Offers People Their Own Blog

    I would like this:

A regular website where the registered user can post on forums, read articles, etc...

The only fancy thing I want, is for the user to be able to create his/her own blog on my site. Are there any cheap solutions for this? I would want it to look like Worpress or Blogger.

Many sites have journals, or blogs that the user can create; myspace, gaiaonline, etc... However, it seems these sites had the blog interface specially designed (thus it must have cost lots of money), and I was wondering if there is anyway I could have ppl have their own blog w/o me shelling out hundreds of dollars.

If not, I will have to abandon my idea until I have some money :(

you can either go for Vbulletin forum software and get the blog plugin or you could try wordpress MU - http://mu.wordpress.org/

Not to jump you thread, but does this offer you the ability to have others create WordPress blogs, under your domain? Like this, newperson.mydomain.com?

yes it does but requires some httpd.conf editing, if you dont have root access blogs are setup as domain.com/blogname

Yes, that's exactly how the Wordpress.com blogs are run actually. It's probably the best option, if you wanted to consider WP anyway.

Is this also free if I have the server space, or is there a license?
I followed the link but it wasn't very clear.

that was a question that I would end up asking anyway, so keep the questions coming, they help us all out.

To everyone else, thanks! WP is like the new God for me! Now the question is; how difficult would this be for a novice to set up? I have no experience with websites, this will likely be one of my first ones, so would it be wise to try to set it up myself, or would it be too difficult?

wordpress alone is easy but wpmu (wordpress multiuser) is a bit more tedious, but if you use the wpmu support forums most of the answers r in there.
