Hi, It's taken me 3 months, but I am nearly finashed on my project, won't upload just yet, as it doesn't work properly. What do I need for my search eninge to make money? I have $4000 to spend on advertisement. Is this enught to get 10,000 hits every month? What type of advertisement should I do? TV? directories? Help me on advertisement I want it to be like google that gets 25,000,000,000 each day OK, help me, at the moment it's in the process of making the index options. I think it'll be finashed next week. Thank you. Help
Look, what is unique about your SE, why web users would use your SE instead of Google or the others? It is not just about advertising. How good is your search engine? And in the event you have the huge traffic you are looking for, do you have the server resource to handle all the users requests?
Also, I have started plans to build a PPC advertising and publisher program within the search eningie. Could get good hits.
See unique ness is the basic part means if you have something to offer which google have but others dont see that and if can highlight that then it can be + point for you otherwise if you are offering same thing which google or some other search engine is offering so why one should come to you, this question you have to keep in mind always while advertising.
right said... just launch your service and so some basic seo for your site... as directory submission - article submission - forum submissions... and get some hits and review about your website then start with the advertising... yes i think to give a start $4000 budget is enough later from earning you can spend more
i have a few small search engines, the oldest is 6 years old my advice: don't try to build a better mousetrap and if you do and are successful at building a better one, don't expect repeat visitors instead focus on roi on whatever traffic you can get and then build traffic
i think, at the internet now, there are have a script to make search engine software, i we can buy it and just hosting it into the we hosting services.
If you can target some niche and establish as an authority for that particular niche then I think the search engine of yours will be profitable. Otherwise there are only hardships ahead.
when you get it up, post it here, and we will take a look and tell you want we think. if its good enough, then its worth adverising
If you want to build a search engine (with your own index) look at the Nutch project. Its attached to Lucene under Apache. It is a very good open source project and has been tested up to a 100 million page index. To have a search engine do ANYTHING you either need to specialize (ie a niche market) or you need to compete with the big guys. Some estimants put Google at 500,000 servers. They spend $300 million a quarter on new capital equipment. They custom tune there servers (even have power supplies specially designed for and patented by Google). A few years back, SearchEngine.com estimated that it would take $100 Million just to enter the market. Google has roughly 15,000 employees (number grows everyday). This should give you an idea of what it takes to run a search engine. Now, running your own set up can be fun. I ran a 12 box cluster in my spare time for a while just to play with Nutch. It can be very interesting and it is fun to share results with friends of even build a super-powerful search feature for your own website! But the idea that anyone can program for 3 months and put something up online (probably on a shared host) isn't going to happen. PS Yes I know the person who asked the question is banned. Thought others might be interested in the numbers.
