Making a photo stock website.

Hi, i am a keen photographer so i decided to create a photo stock website. Im not going to be buying any script for $5 and sticking to that.

I will be having a budget of around $200/$300. I will be able to design and code it so all i would need is for somone to code the script.

I was just wondering which way you would run the site...

1 Have the credit system and sell my own photos and other peoples. If other peoples photos sold i would split it 60/40 my way.

2Have a monthly/yearly fee. I prefered this idea but im not sure how i would encourage other photographers to upload their own as by this way people would have access to all the photos.

    Thanks.

    Dang, your joking? :(

What about if i were to give them free? Then maybe when i got popular started a $5/month subscription?

Its a crowded niche for sure. But you could make it work, just offer better options or set it up as your own stock art site and promote it. Free would most likely result in all of your photos appearing elsewhere overnight.

As mentioned above, this market is very saturated and it will be difficult to gain traction. However, it will help if you have a specific niche (or type of photo/style) instead of trying to be just another stock photo site. Stock photos are definitely in demand, so if you find the right niche, you'll do well.

Anyway, option #2 is a good one if you have a lot of content.

    Good luck!

I would go both ways. Sell the photos as singles, but also give the option to join as a member.

Don't listen to these people telling you no. There are tons of ways to make good money from a stock photo site. Identify your niche, and the sky's the limit.

As for the script, theree are a few good ones around the range you're looking in. Whatever you do, DO NOT PURCHASE www.stockphotoscript.com, it's a box of rocks with absolutely no support and with no functionality close to what is promised.

    Check out:
    www.xpoze.org
    http://www.ktools.net/

    and others.

    Good luck with your project!

    Hey,

I just came across a free script, ZenPhoto (http://www.zenphoto.com). I set it up yesterday and it's AWESOME.

Check it out on my new site (10 minute setup max) at http://www.iscreenshots.com. Once you're set up, let me know so we can exchange links. They have multiple templates, so please check them out.
