target your market first- all the comments about a certain niche are actually very true and wise. you need to know which market you're gonna target, and know exactly how competitive that market is. for example, if you wanna blog about bread (sorry for the example i'm a bit hungry ) anyway, let's say you chose the blog style of choice. the cliche which saying "content is the king" is absolutely right.. create original, unique content (per example: different posts about different kinds of breads, various recipes, cultural differences and such) use targeted key words and phrases ( you can use google online tools for it such as Goolge Insights and Google Trends and many more other free keywords tools online - such as google adword's keyword tools - just search the search engines for that... there are tons of them out there) these keywords/key phrases will help you understand the stronger keywords you want to use within your article (remember to do it wisely and interesting - since the SE bots and crawlers might recognize the words but the most important outcome of that is once the traffic arrives you want to keep it coming back .. (check information about Density, meta tags and such) i would advice you to read a bit more about SEO - search engine optimization, that would give you a start of what you need to do right from the start in creating a great site/blog which is SEO friendly and what you need to consider while working on it. gather around a list of various search engines (starting from the most familiar ones: Google, Yahoo!, Bing and find as many as you can for the geo-targeted market you want to target) and submit your site to them. also consider backlinks, which means basically other URLs where your domain appears in (other sites, forumes and such), all of course have to be relative to your blog's subject and interest. (unless you wanna handle greyish or blackish hat/SEO techniques.. but that's something else). Social Media is important too; facebook/twitter/myspace and other social networks can be a great platform to drive traffic to your website/blog. sign up, open a profile and start spreading the word. well there are so many other elements and things to consider in order to create a well SEO friendly site/blog that for the long run can climb in search results and appear on the top ranking results (that's the goal anyway). but beside the classic SEO, SMO (social media optimization) is important too. my best advice is to do a little order within the clutter and start by reading and getting to know the SEO world a bit better. i bet there are tons of beginners guides online and blogs where you can get familiar with the basic definitions and the basic needs. You could also do updating your site regularly by unique and effective content/ information.That will be surely effective to generate huge traffic.
