Making a living only off of websites

I'm a tech kind of guy and I just started up my first website several weeks ago. Its doing well...bringing in some steady traffic (couple hundred/day) and I have made some money although nothing significant. I suppose my goal is that in 4 or 5 years, I will be able to live off of the money I make from my websites. Do you think this is a realistic goal?

Does anyone on here do this? (I'm sure there is...)

Any advice as to steps for building my 'empire'?

Let's just say that if it's only been a few weeks and you're already bringing in a couple hundred visitors per day, you should be there much sooner than 4 or 5 years

I'm making a living off of websites since I started using AdSense. I'm also saving money for my university education.

I'm not a full timer yet, I currently make about 20% of my day job income off of websites and I've been running sites for nearly two years, however, I have only recently gotten serious about making money on the net in the past few months... so I definetely think it's possible.

Make sure you enjoy the sites you run though, or you'll get burnt out.

I have to say that this is my goal as well. Working for someone else who drives a very expensive BMW when they can't even provide decent health insurance for their employees isn't something I want to do for the rest of my life. I am trying to read up on stuff like how to start a small business, taxes, etc., but I have to say it's sooo boring learning about the business side of things. But, I keep telling myself that it will pay off in the end.

I just launched a new site (my first seriouse site actually) two months ago, and my business plan is to make $2000 USD by summertime. That should be enought to live of for students. By the end of 2007 my goal is $5000 a month.

I your familiar with how to setup webpages, you do a bit of reading about marketing on the internet and you run a site about a topic you like, then you should be able to make a decent income way before 4-5 years.

I have not set up a site yet, but on the process of doing so. I guess, like a fellow mentioned above, wanting to be my own boss and make good money is my main objective. As one fellow said just now, you have to love / enjoy the sites you do. ;-)

You can get lucky like me and have a 9-5 job that allows you to work on your own websites the entire time :) I do plan on eventually quitting the day job when I have enough saved up. I mean, I don't want to be waking up at 6AM forever. I've been told that even if you can afford to quit your job at your monthly rate you should have enough saved to live on for 1.5 years just in case something goes wrong. Of course us guys with college loans, mortgages and car payments have a lot more expenses than the college students :)

There is money to be made on the web, and the list is endless. Best thing....stick to things that you like and know about. Don't expect miracles over night, but have patience and work hard...you'll end up successful.

I also hope to live off the internet sometime but For now I just want to buy a new computer :) Not even close yet :( but by the end of the year I hope to earn $100-$250 a month ( currently at around $10 ). Right now this is strictly a hobby as Im focusing on my education. And before I go into the biz full time I'm going to save up 2-4 years of expenses in case something terrible happens!

I just set up mine, but have to launch it as it's not 100% complete. As a result, no income from that site yet. But...who knows? =)
