Hi there, I'm a student at Curtin University in Perth Australia. We have some internal forums at the university websites, but they really suck and we only have them in half my courses. This is really annoying so I was thinking of starting my own forum. Would I be allowed to do so? I know I have to have permission to use their logo, but I'm thinking of making my own. I do also plan to state very clearly that this is a "Curtin University in Perth forum". Does anyone see any reason why I would not be allowed to do this?
I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be since there are groups of similar nature on social networking sites/groups which serve similar purpose. Adding the word Unofficial will make things better as far as i can tell.
Yeah, I was thinking of making it very clear somehow that this board is not an official curtin board and is in no way affiliated with curtin. Anyone have a example of a message like this I can put on my site?
Many fan forums have such things, like 'The Un-official liverpool forums' who will use Liverpool Football Club's logo.
You can just label it as {University Name} Student forums. No issues there and no need to put unofficial, as it's clearly a forum for that university's students.
Either put "Unofficial" in the title/header OR put a disclaimer/about page/notice saying that you're in no way associated with or express the views of the university management and officials. Putting Unofficial would be the best bet. And don't use any copyrighted content.
