Making a forum and using adsense, Good or bad idea?

I am thinking about doing a forum for my hobby website, is there anywhere to read about guides and getting one up

Also is this a decent way to earn some money and get traffic? DO I have to worry about getting in trouble with adsense? Everything is legit, but I am just so worried that something will go terribly wrong and I lose everything

Anyone that has one, I would appreciate your suggestions

It's not as long as you are not making your site a building blocks of adsense.
What I mean to say is you have more advertisement in your site than contents.

Unobtrusive ads are always ok by me. Also, if you offer rev-sharing like this site does ppl won't mind.

I don't see any problem with your idea either. You just have to make sure that your forums content are knowledgeable and such things..

Is this even a serious question?

If you're sooo skeptical in starting a forum with AdSense in it then I guess DigitalPoint is sorely mistaken in adding AdSense to this forum.

In the beginning, it is very difficult to establish and drive traffic to a new forum when compared to a blog or website. If you are very confident, then go ahead with your idea.

I agree with you, but once you got traffic flow then you don't need to worry about content since the forum members will be there to take care of the rest
A forum which is getting good traffic will be no doubt a good source of regular income

As long as the ads aren't placed everywhere and the website is nicely laid out, otherwise guests will think its to 'crowded'.

This is exactly what I would say.

The other thing you need to be very, very aware of is that Adsense is heavily dependent upon placement on a page. This is no different for forums. Therefore you need to think of some way to put your Adsense advertisements in a place that is profitable but least intrusive to your users.

Making a forum is not easy, but there are guides around that can help you with the easy intallations and it is almost instant just like installing wordpress by using fantastico. There are a couple of rules when posting Adsense in forums so better read those too.
