Making a Directory More User-Friendly

I don't mean user-friendly as in for the people adding links, but instead to people who will actually browse or search the results and visit the sites listed. The directory is www.FreeDeepLinks.com - I'm categorizing articles from all across the Web basically. Unlike a lot of free directories that I've come across, I don't expect to just market to people to add links. I plan to very actively push the sites to readers looking for information on these subjects, to try to drive traffic through the directory to the listed sites. So how can I make it more appealing to people that might just be looking for articles to read?

    Here's what I'm already doing:

    1. I hired two people to start adding links in specific categories that would have current appeal or that would be more looked for soon b/c of a seasonal nature.

    2. I just added featured categories in the header, to lead to things relevant to the time, health topics, business topics, and things that are simply for fun... areas I'm figuring could be reasonably popular categories.

    3. I'll be sending out another press release or two dealing targeting readers/researchers probably next week.

    4. I'm slowly but surely cleaning up the categories, deleting some, adding others, and I'll be re-doing the top-level categories and organization towards the end. After that, I'll add the suggest category mod so readers can suggest things they can't find but that they're interested in.

    Anything else I can do?

I'm thinking about choosing a few articles either each week or each day to feature at the bottom of either every page or just the home page. Do you think that would be helpful at all?

    Thanks!

It's working fine for me, and a few other articles were just added a couple of minutes ago. Might have just been a temporary glitch or something.

Wow... always nice to see how childish some people here can be. (Don't get me wrong; most DP members are entirely professional, and that's great.) But I guess someone doesn't like my directory, considering they decided to give me negative rep on this thread with the nice little message "Eat cat poop, mother sticker" attached. I guess it's a good thing idiocy amuses me. ;)

Thx for that Laminate Flooring Buy Guide, jhmattern.

I was just browsing through your directory (i like the colors :)) and just so happen to stumble across the article. Funny thing is, I was looking into laminate flooring this past week to see what the prices are and who the better manufacturers are etc etc.

    thx for the read :p

Well good. I'm sure whoever submitted that article would be happy to know it was worth their time to do that. :)
