Making a Blog Members Only

    Hi,

I run a news blog for an organisation, it's getting about 100,000 visitors per month. One of the options they are considering for the site is to make it members only to read. I believe this will kill about 95% of the traffic however can't find anything to back this up.

Does anyone know of any articles of studies about where other sites have done this and it has reduced traffic significantly.

    Best regards

if you keep it open to all you can earn better from advertising money.
i dont see a point making it members only.

You should have a transition period. You should do both members only and open to see who is taking advantage of the members only section... If there is no added value, then people won't sign up for members only. ALL sort of news are public. People get that all over the place. Why should someone sign up for your members only site?

    Just my thought...
