    A) NO, i don't have time for that!!

    were would you start?

    A) I will start from researching on google, google analytics, google bots, Google spiders. crawlers, and meta tags. To know more how search engine works you can go through this http://computer.howstuffworks.com/search-engine.htm

btw i forgot to mention that Web designing is compulsory for this project

I certainly couldn't. I don't have the knowledge nor the hardware for such an undertaking. lol. But IF I were to, then I would start with http://openacoon.de/. an open source search engine. It is in german so you may need the help of google ;)

There are so many search engines and you would need to make your own spider. I think it would be a lot of effort and a waste of time to compete with Google MSN and Yahoo.

You could if you had a lot of money, time and the right people. Just think about all of the servers you'd need if you wanted to become like Google. They'd cost a lot! Then you'd need people to code efficient ways of storing the data and a good system along with bots to crawl.

You can try Yahoo BOSS service - build your own custom search engine based on yahoo protocol, or you can create your own search engine using google custom search engine option.

I am currently working on a search engine but due to search engines taking up alot of server space it would be impossible for me to keep up with pay so thats why I had a couple of friends help me recode the Google Api and now I got the search script working I might launch this in a few weeks or a Month or two due to some other features that I will add

If you have the brain, money and the fund required to set up a profitable search engine, you can make it.

The issues will be relevant results to search queries, hosting (server space) and advertising. These two point will determine if the business will be successful or not.

it would be very difficult to code own search engine but you can use google search engine to show that in your site through google adsense account and you will get paid for users searching in it

Python and Java are commonly used by search engines. PHP isn't powerful enough.

    Good luck.

I'm working on a search engine, and found that most big search engines provide apis, and if you mix the api's into one engine it can work out pretty well ;)
