Having had a crash course in seo and backlinking over the past few days I have started to think the easily way to generate backlinks for you own site would be to team up with 10 or so other webmasters and get a forum or two off the ground. Of course forums are only as good as their users and content. Hence grab 10 or so webmasters who will also want the forum to grow. Or am i really barking up the wrong tree?
granted that would be more work. But thats why I was looking to set it up with more webmasters. Plus depends on the content as to the viral nature of the forum. Course then you have to worry about spam backlinks that are unrelated. Pros and cons. But I have run huge forums before mainly aimed at teenagers. things like roliana.com and menewsha.com take 3 months to setup but explode with users and posts.
Playing devils advocate; Webmaster are very fickle, once they get what they want out of something they quickly lose interest in maintaining it. Getting 10 people together in the first place who can all agree won't be easy, keeping them interested will be even more difficult. I fear that the incentive of backlinks alone won't be enough on it's own. Forums are well known to have reduced backlinking power because they are easy targets for link building. All that effort for backlinks though... sorry but there are far easy ways to build links. Just my opinion
that is probably too much work with a slim chance to work out for you, there are much better ways to gain quality backlinks
Sounds to me like you are trying to build backlinks all coming from the same source, your generated forum, and this again means, all backlinks coming from the same IP. I don't think that's a good idea. But if you want to try it that way, there are several hosted free forums available. I personally think, you'd be better off creating backlinks with blog commenting. At least you will spread your link building efforts over many different sites and IP's.
