Not really. I was going to spend $5000 anyway. I believe that $5000 is a good investment.

Plus I was going to be doing a lot of work to maintain the forums.
If I go find a 9 to 5 job that pays $10 an hour I could be bringing home $1600 a month.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
    Thank you

    rhoula,

I am not sure why $5,000 is needed to create a forum unless 98% of that revenue would go in to advertising. I would suggest for you to start with a lower budget.

My suggestion : Don't spend all on a forum..
Money is earned hardly. Try to understand its importance.
If you want to make your forum better $1k usd is enough.

sounds like you don't know what you are investing in. I'd do excrow and if he refuses don't do it. He'd have to be someone I really knew well to trust.

Buddy at $5000 I can build a whole empire, I again suggest you don't let anyone to make control over your money.
Self spend and ask for guidance from your friend.

The budget is to be spent over few months, not all in once.

I know that's what got me thinking, $5000 profit is great.

As I said before the budget will be spent over a long period of time.

Thank you, for your great advice, i agree with you 1000% That's why we will be hiring some forum posters. Not any forum posters. Only the ones that know what they are doing. They will be paid up to 0.50 per post.

With all the respect I owe you yes I do know what I m investing in. The reason I'm asking for advice from fellow DP members is because I believe that one hand cannot clap by itself, and that the more advices I could get the better.

That is the reason, i turned to DP members to ask for advice. Also, I have a good experience managing websites, I own 45 websites and know what it takes to be successful, content as elbeer said and update. The rest comes automatically.

Thank you guys for your help :)

Forums only generally make money from ads, and for that you need traffic and plenty of it. $5000 dollars sounds a lot of money, and it sounds like it will be an ongoing expenditure. Review you options and maybe build up over a period of time, it will cost you a lot less.

    Hello,
I think if that is all your money I would not do it, invest only $1000.00 tops also if it fails you might lose a good friend. Think long and hard before you do this.

I like this approach. If the guy thinks your site's niche has enough merit to be a consistently high earner, he'd do well to partner with you on the project.

It sounds like a scam to me. I don't see why you would need to invest that much into a forum. I would do much more research on this.

NOoooo...don't spend that much money on a forum.
Just create a site and then use some of the money to promote it...even then you will have a lot left.

I appreciate your input guys. But I have noticed that many of you have not read the whole story.

Well this is some calculation I came up with. Please tell me if you think it's feasible:

    $5000 : 30.4375(average number of days in a month) = $164.271

I need to make $164.271 every day. with a CTR of 0.52% and a page ECPM of $0.32 I will need about 98720 Visits.

Do you guys think this is possible.

    Thank you

I have a pretty successful forum and I am telling you from experience that forums are VERY hard to monetize. So you are much better of spending those 5k's some where else.

The inherent problems with forums is that, the visitors are there for a specific purpose, most of them at least. And such visitors are least likely to click on an ad. Its the random visitors that click most of the time.

It sounds too good to be true, but if you are serious about it, why not start smaller, like $500, and see what happens. If you start to see results, then you can increase your investment.

I agree with you 100% I remember reading your previous posts about the same thing.

Thank you for taking the time to remind me.

My question is, how could I cater to these random visitors that click ads, and where can i find them.

In other words, where should I advertise to lure them to my forums?

If you're going to go ahead with this, then MAKE SURE you research the niche deeply. Find out how much people are paying to advertise on adwords for the niche your forum will be in; what the competition is like; how your target audience act towards ads (e.g. webmasters will hate ads and are pretty much ad-blind, but people looking for gardening won't know what ads are, they will click them thinking that it is a link to another page on your site).

I personally think that unless your niche is something great, then it will be EXTREMELY!! hard to monetize your site and earn $167 per day from ads alone (I would recommend finding other ways too, e.g. affiliates, sell your own product/ebooks).
