Style Guidelines:

-This should be in-line with other social network/meeting sites: Simple, professional, accessible for all users at all ages but especially focused on tech-savvy users 20-35 years old. Keep in mind that it is a friendship site, so warm/friendly colors are appropriate. Facebook, LetsLunch, GrubWithUs, and MindMeister all have sites that have a look and feel that would be appropriate for this.

Feel free to be creative! These are just guidelines to help, but if you have a better idea, go for it. Look at my previous contests to see that I always follow through with quick, detailed feedback on entries.

@bnairb: Thank you for your submission. I feel as though many things are improved and others could use work.

What I really like: The top menu bar feels much improved with the 3 dimensionality and offsetting the user in a different color on the right. All the graphics feel a lot smoother. The site feels more consistent, and the curved box treatments are intriguing, although maybe a little too prevalent.

Constructive feedback: I am unsure about the green and the monochrome. While I like the consistency I'd like more colors involved and warmer/brighter ones such as blue (green, yellow, red, etc. can all be involved too, but don't have to be) that denote friendship. Parts of the design feel to bright... as though they are whited out and tough to see.

Beyond the design: If you feel like taking this design to the next level, reformatting the content of one of the elements, such as one of the point boxes, would be really cool to see.

Feedback:

@hpaul: I really like your design a lot. Specifically, I like how you are playing with the side design by keeping the layout but changing the elements' shape and presentation. I like the indented dots to the right of the titles for 'Quick Search' and 'Rank among Facebook friends'. I also like the progress bar including diagonal bars within it, and the new presentation of the upper right point box.

Areas for improvement: I would like the 'Sara's Home' to be all the way to the left... it would be great to see it there and the invites integrated somewhere else. Your presentation of the top bar is interesting, but messages looks a little stranded... should it be more to the right or more to the left? I also think adding a 3 dimensionality to the top bar would look great. I like the content background of my original design with the lines, or a background like @bnairb has made better than it is in your design. Lastly I like that you changed up the lower right point box, but can you add the pictures back in somehow?

@bnairb: The way you integrated the point box in the upper right to tie in with the user is very cool. I like that. I appreciate your adding more color, but I'm not sure it's the right color. I am looking for bright, friendly, strong hue colors. See the following to websites (especially the first) for the type of feel I am going for: http://www.campingilfrutteto.it/, http://www.mindmeister.com/. In regards to your PM asking what I meant by adding more redesign to an element such as the point box, look at what @hpaul2 did with the point boxes and the invite box. I'm just looking for little ways of changing them up, such as @hpaul2 did.

@natali77: I like how you changed the top of the top matches/meets box and added consistent color. My feedback to you is similar as it is for @bnairb. I'd like to see brighter, more friendly colors such as on http://www.campingilfrutteto.it/, http://www.mindmeister.com/. And it would be great to see some bigger changes, such as you did with the user name, to the way the point system, for example, is displayed.

I made some changes, if background is not good I can change to something more lighen.

 

The following design was PMed to me. Since I require all submission to be public for the fairness of all, I am posting it here:

 

@putto: I really like the colors of this design and the rounded top bar plus the background (nice!) make it feel very friendship like, which is good. I also like how you redid the lower right point system, that part is great.

Areas for improvement: I do think it lacks a professionalism and cohesion that the other designs have. While the variety in colors is great, there may be too much variety. There is also a lot of variety in shapes... some rounded some square that makes it feel a little disjointed. It also feels like there is too much text above the meet me... it is taking up more space than in the other designs. Thanks.

hpaul2: I like your treatment of the lower left top matches/top meets section. It is good to see that.

Areas for improvement: It would be great to add more color to it. I like the design on the whole, but my partners looked at it and said it felt a bit bare and too white. I'm still not liking the background as much as in the other designs. I think the border lines or a gradient or background design as in the other submissions would add to a lot. A top bar that feels 3d, like in @bnairb's design, would be great. Finally, in the upper right box I like how you seperated the points and rank to one side and the badge to the other, but could you improve the points and rank appearance somehow? It looks a little plain just sitting there.

On the whole I really like your design, so even though there is a lot of feedback I hope you take it into account and resubmit. Thanks!

General feedback for all:

There is some great stuff here, spread out over a number of the designs. So I'm going to first provide my favorites of each part of the site, then specific feedback.

Colors/Look&Feel: @natali77's most recent entry has the right colors and look/feel. It is both professional and friendly (only color problem is too much pink: http://upit.cc/i/91a17e45.jpg)
Uniqueness: @hpaul2 changes up the design the most, which I like. For example, I like the circles to the right of 'Quick Search'.
Background: All of @bnairb's backgrounds and all of @natali77's backgrounds have been awesome. I really can't decide between the four. @puttu's background was very good, but not quite as good as those.
Top menu: @bnairb's menu has been excellent all along. Perfect 3 dimensionality, and the offset color for the user name is perfect.
Lower right point box: @bnairb and @hpaul2 are tied here. I wish these were pushed a little more to be different from my original.
Lower left box: @dlightcreative has each user profile set in a bit, which looks great.
Upper right point box: @leetsoot (submission below) is on the right track. That point box but with the badge separated from the points and rank would be perfect.
Invite system: @natali77's most recent design does a great job integrating this.

Next post will have specific feedback for each design.

@natali77: I really like your most recent design. Ways for it to improve: The colors are great, but they are too shiny. I'd like those same colors (except less or no pink) but without as much shine and maybe the green and blue just a little darker. The shine also makes some of the text difficult to read, like 'MeetMe'. It would also be great if the entire center part were a solid color background, with the clouds just outside of that. As written above, I really like the way you integrated the invites, but other top bars look better to me. Point boxes could use some work as described in my previous post.

@hpaul2: Really like this most recent one too. I'm glad you added colors in, it helps a lot, although even a little more color could help it more. It would be improved by the quick search being separated a bit more from the background of the site, the font in the top menu being larger, and the Sara's home/your profile is 95% complete section taking up more space, it feels like it is too small in the left corner. Also see my note about backgrounds above. I'm not sure of sites to point to for backgrounds, because what works on one site may not work on mine, but si.com and grubwithus.com use a background well.

@bnairb: The colors still feel off. They are all too pale/bright. They should be pure bright colors, without brightness/contrast added, like in @hpaul2 and @dlightcreative's designs. The blue is close to good, the green is too gray. You've done a great job adding style to my design, it would be great to see you change up the way the elements are laid out a little as described above.

@dlightcreative: Very clean design, which is great. It could use a background on the sides, and also just some more variety. If there is a way to change up shapes or colors while still keeping that clean feel that would be great. Besides that see my notes in the previous post about the top bar and point boxes.

@puttu: I'm glad that everything in your design is rounded now, but I think we've gone in the wrong direction with the Sara's home and MeetMe part. It would be better to bring those more in-line with what we're seeing in the other designs. The quick search aspect of it is interesting and I'm glad you changed it, but it feels kind of tacky right now, partially because it is in gray while everything else is in color with a white background. It needs to be a bit cleaner. The top matches and meets need to be separate tabs too.
