There are several ways to make money on the internet. You don’t always have to sell a product, service or have advertisement on your site. You can make money of donations too. It’s probally something that won’t make you rich, but it can give you some free cash, or should I say - beers? Ankesh Kothari just released a new plugin that can be installed on Wordpress blogs. The addon adds a “Buy me a beer†line to the end of your posts, and if you want to, you can also have a widget in your sidebar. When someone clicks the link they are sent to a secure paypal site, where they can make the donation to your paypal account. For people who prefer non-alcoholic drinks, there is a setting to replace the beer mug with a coffee cup. What makes this plugin better than other donation plugins, is how you present the idea of donation to your readers. How many times haven’t you’ve seen the “Donate†or “Donate me a buck†signs on peoples blogs or webpages? I’ve seen it a dozen of times, and I never even look at them twice. With the text “Buy me a beerâ€, the whole idea of donating all the sudden becomes more interesting. For those beer drinkers of you, I’m sure we’ve all been out drinking with our buddies, treating beer around like you just made a million bucks. I have this plugin for 1 week now. I still have zero donations. But if somebody will donate it'll make me happy to know somebody has found enough value at what I wrote to actually pay me in a sense for that post
Why could it get you into trouble? I've goten a few beer on it, over the last weeks. I think if it like this: The users buying me these beer are users who probally liked my post/work. They then wanted to pay me some how, but how could they do that? They don't want to buy anything from me, hire me or anything like that. They just want to give me a little thanks. With a donation button that easy. And with texts like "Buy me a beer", it's even easier. The users buying you beers probally wouldn't click your ads or buy anything they haven't allready bought, so it's just extra money!
