Make a directory inside existing website, good ?

Let say you have a good high pr website/blog. Why not start a directory inside this website? http://www.domain.com/directory/

I think it is very good idea. Increasing PR of directory website is not easy, I feel easier with blog or normal website.
Let me know what do you think of it both from the website owner view and the submitter view.

I think the idea will work for a niche market. But don't do it just to be doing it.

Actually I'm a little bit afraid google will dropping my PR because of this .. but I will take the risk.
