I just stumbled upon this thread while browsing yesterday, Great thread and a lot of good information. Thanks for starting it and keeping it up for quite a while. I had a few questions maybe you could give some insight that will be useful for everyone here.
First of all I have been making blogs on different subjects a couple have done really well and ranked for their keywords, but since i have been doing this without much knowledge and research I have been ranking for the wrong keywords with no CPC. So I'm starting over and this thread helped a lot my questions are.

1. I have been able to rank NO 1 on google with a blogspot blog among 700,000 competitors so Do you think staying with blogger is a good way to follow your model without investing money.
2. While doing keyword research for niche sites what no of competitors should one look for. for example what would you say to keyword niches with the following stats.
Example A. Global Monthly Searches 90500- Total results on Google 348000
Example B. Global Monthly Searches 246000- Total results on Google 342000
Example C. Global Monthly Searches 9900- Total results on Google 72500
Example D. Global Monthly Searches 368000- Total results on Google 672000

Especially give your Input about the following
Global Monthly Searches 1000000- Total results on Google 340000

Do you think a keyword competition of 300,000-500,000 sites is too big to scale. I think it should be relatively easy to rank for this type of competition, your feedback would be really appreciated.

 

If you go down this route you will be best creating a Hubpage first and seeing how that ranks on its own to judge competition and traffic (Google research tools are very innacurate). If it shows promise then continue with an actual site. Saves buying a domain for a keyword that won't work, plus the hubpage can be your first backlink.

Also the best keywords are the ones Google does not pick up on as there's lots of advanced marketers doing this and they have tools which hunt out these keywords based on Google data and have a semi-automated system churning out hundreds of sites, and then churning out hundreds of backlinks using something like SEO Quake.

Using some software or wordpress plugins you could create a more user friendly site with price comparison too rather than a useless and spammy MFA site.
