Majority of Work/School filters, etc - block by IP or domain?

    Hey,

I run a proxy and traffic has recently died, due most likely to my Iranian traffic disappearing because of blocks over there. However, I had the idea to switch all my domains onto another IP.

    Will this work?

I guess what I'm really asking is if most web filters block by domain or IP.

    Thanks

I'm not an expert by any means, but I would think that any real filter would block by both domain and IP..

Top notch filters may block by

    1. Domain name ( foo.blah.com )
    2. Specific URLS ( foo.blah.com/sex/ )
    3. Keywords on a page ( mp3, download, etc )

Dansguardian for example has a feature called BlanketIP mode. When this is enabled, everyone behind the filter will need to use a name in their browser to access the web. Punching in an IP address will deny them access by default.

In your case, the filters will still recognise your site by its name and block it.
