Major SERP Changes the past 24 hours

So... I follow lots of keywords including some major keywords which contain large brands. Anyway... in the past 24 hours I've seen a huge change in just about every keyword we track. A few had major brands ranking #1 and them seem to no longer rank #1. Some went to #4 and some fell from the sky. On the other end of things I've seen websites shoot to the first page from nowhere.

    Anyone else noticing these changes?

Can you make out any patterns?

Yes it looks like Caffeine is rolling out this April.. There are 2 possible reasons why they are doing this

    1. Its a perfect time to roll it out in 1st of April.
    2. If they stuffed up, they can roll it back and say Happy April Fools to everyone :)

    Good being careful as usual!

It could be a number of different items.

-Google is always updating their algorithm to make it the most efficient as possible. The new updates most likely are changing some of the ranking factors weights. Thus the change in rankings for certain domains.
-Another factor could be that the companies moving up are just making better SEO decisions.

I may be able to shed some light on the situation.
Google has recently introduced Geo-targeting in their SERPS. This means if your request is coming from Seattle Washington, it's going to show websites from Seattle or nearby first. This is creating a massive commotion amongst SEM professionals. It's making for a whole new game to SEM really. It's also opening a door to other SE's to step things up, because this seems to leave a hole for websites that are truly global, with translations ta boot. .... I haven't finished reading into it, but I'll try to report back after I have some more info. I think there's an article in my latest copy of Search Marketing Standard I will read soon.
